Hurricane Matthew On the Grand Strand A Year Later
10/9/2017 (Permalink)
It is hard to believe that it has been one year since Hurricane Matthew hit the Grand Strand as a category one hurricane.
This storm reminded the residents of Horry County of two key things.
- The need for an emergency supply kit is always present during and after hurricanes, tropical storms and even some stronger thunderstorms. The kit should have enough supplies for each person in the dwelling to have for at least 2 weeks. I know that seems a bit exaggerated but as some of the residents of our neighboring communities in Nichols South Carolina could tell you 2 weeks is probably a good starting point.
- When evacuation orders are given it is best and safest to follow them to a tee. No deviations should be asserted due to the ever-changing road and storm conditions. Get out and stay put until the all clear is given!
